Definite NP. If you can find another Lemans blue on blue with similar mileage for the same price, I'll only post on Jezebel for a week (please don't search).
For those who don't like links:
~2002 BMW M5 in Lemans blue (sex) on black/blue sport 2-tone interior.

~$16k obo

Someone buy this. Seriously, it's a good deal and this isn't just me fanboying over one of my favorite cars.

You had me at blue on blue. This is the M5 I've always dreamed of owning.

I'm more of a blue on caramel kind of guy, but damn blue on blue looks so good. Sporty but still elegant as fuck.

It doesn't look like it's been modified. Still has the perfect stock wheels. I hope I can find one just like this 5 years from now.

I always get twitchy when I look at ads for e39s with just slightly more miles than mine and see the laundry list of repairs "just finished!"

always search M5board my friend. I found a 1 owner, maintained by BMW North America (it was the car they loaned to some magazine) with only 50k on it for $19k..... Most M5's with that mileage sell for $25k+.

as I have an Imola red 01, I highly recommend. Exhaust is not stock though. Wheels are so hard to find stock...they fetch over 5k down here.
And...err...best not to mention Jez, lest ye be pitchforked. 1st rule of oppo et al.

haha don't worry, most of the time the "just repaired!" parts aren't as fresh as you think.
Pics of the E39!?

yeah the tips looked a little bigger than normal. The rears are really desirable as a lot of people want to run squared set ups with the 9.5's.
Haha the jez remark was risky, I'm hoping no one finds a better M5.

The Ferrari needs something blue to sit next to in the garage.
Buy this and make a few videos, and I promise I'll buy it off you in a year.

The truth is I need something AWD or I would probably do it. I e-mailed on two different S4s the other day, but I can't decide what I want so I'll probably turn it over to Jalopnik soon. If I were staying in Atlanta I think I would probably buy it.

I might e-mail anyway. It's very cool. It would suck having to move 2 cars north though. Already paying $1,200 to move the 360... blech.

I keep looking at it.
I've never had RWD in the snow.

$1200 seems pretty steep for Atlanta to Philly. I'm right outside of DC and when I was getting quotes on a 911 most reputable enclosed transporters were telling me around $2k for a West coast car.
Boo on the AWD requirement! Just kidding, look for a B7 S4 wagon! Or really any S4 wagon.
I'll drive the M5 up to Philly for you!!

it's not that bad if you drive sanely.
I drive a 328i and it's fine in the snow with some really good all seasons. Like I said, I'm outside of DC so we get some snow here too.

I found a B6 S4 Avant, Nogaro Blue, stick shift, but check this out:
http://www.euroaddiction.net/forum/b6-b7-pl…
Apparently that will eventually affect all of em, and the one I was looking at was well within the mileage range where it starts to be an issue. $8-12k at a dealer.
BTW the east-west shipping lanes are always a bit cheaper. I got the $1,200 quote from several different shippers.

This car will have to sit outside too — we only have a 1-car garage. Doesn't seem like the right spot for it. What I really want is a winter beater, but man this thing is cool.

ah man that sounds like an amazing car but unless you're getting a killer deal on it I don't think it'll be worth spending that much money on soon.
I understand, I live in a townhouse and when I was buying I chose a place with a big backyard and basement instead of a place with a garage, so I have 2 spaces outside. This is the main thing stopping me from buying something cool like a 964.
Still, I'm incredibly bias but the M5 wouldn't be a bad winter car. The heated seats in BMW's are fucking amazing. It's like satan himself is breathing on your back.

You're in Pensylvania right? With good tires, a powerful RWD car does the job very well... Look at my avatar :)
I would recommend something different than an E39 M5 though... Kind of a sacrilege if you ask me :)

Here's hoping. I still say a little prayer before I turn the key every time.
I agonized over blue or grey before I bought, finally ended up building a preposterously huge spreadsheet to determine which car I was looking at was actually the best choice. Ended up going more stealthy, but I still drool every time I see a blue one. you should jump on that one if you're in the market, it's the time to buy and the desirable color combos will weather additional miles the best if you ever decide to resell so you can enjoy it guilt-free.

Surely they don't make a winter tire for its wheel size?

very nice. You should do an Oppositelock review!
I've been on and off looking into buying an E39 M5. I've been looking for a lemans on caramel for a while but that's pretty tough to find. There's a guy near me with an Avus blue on blue with 56k on it. He was asking $20k but decided to pull it off the market. It's a bargain. It was maintained by BMW NA for a few years too.

Come on, how long have you been working for Porsche :)
You would know that Porsche sells Pirelli SottoZeros on their Porsches for people requiring winter tires... They come in sizes up to 295/35/18, which will surely do the trick on an M5...
This is what I have on the Corvette... As you can see here, it works alright

Skip to the bottom if you just want the bottom line answer.
staggered 18x8/9.5. The fronts are "undesirable" so for a few hundred you can pick up another set of mint fronts to run a smaller winter wheel.
Here's the all season I run: the grip is amazing and the tread wear is fantastic. Snow performance is considered one of the best for an all season. Cheap too, and you can run it year round so no need to pick up another set.
http://m.tirerack.com/tires/TireDeta…
If you want a real winter set up I recommend just running 4 fronts. Here are the praised blizzaks in that size.
http://m.tirerack.com/tires/TireDeta…
But yes, if you run a 265 in the back instead of a 275, which most E39 owners do, you have the 1 single choice.

Do it!!
Haha, I really am serious though, keep it for a year or two and I will buy it from you.
I can't decide what to do with my 328i right now. An E39 M5 is definitely DD material and I'd end up driving it more than the 328i but the 328i hasn't even hiccuped so why fix it if it ain't broke?

I didn't buy a second m5 as I couldn't find one cheap enough un molested. still want one though. As for Jez, rembemer: If you throw a stone at them, they will fire an rpg at you, and return with an Abrahms to make sure you're dead. tread lightly.

do you DD the M5?
I haven't had any encounters with angry Jez members. I don't go over there and I'm pretty conservative with what I post over here.

I used too, but I want to save it for long term now. It's a good daily, in fact the best, and that's why I want another. They are hard to come by down here.
Smart man. I'm that way inclined myself. Whilst i've not been hit by them yet, In the 5 or so years I've been around, I've seen them burn a few at the stake.

Yeah I feel like once I buy one and start to DD one I'll want to buy a garage queen to keep for when the DD dies. I'm probably gonna have to travel to buy it though.
I haven't too much bad stuff from Jez, but I've seen enough to not mess around.

Get a set of Hakka's on some cheap wheels. You won't be plowing, but you won't get stuck.
